Contact lenses review – Matlens “EOS J-211” Col.: Blue & Green

Not long ago I ordered the first time at Matlens and want to tell you my experiences.

Because I want the matching eye color for my cosplay, but am shortsighted and always a bit confused at the conventions and never notice if somebody waves or greets me from afar, I really needed lenses with prescription! In the past I always ordered at mycostumes, but they don´t have contact lenses with prescription anymore, so I needed another option.

After searching a lot at google and fora, I found a lot of stuff at matlens, Linsenfinder, Aricona and other dealers, also amazon, whereas the other dealer also sell their stuff and have more or less bad reviews. The variety is less and it´s more expensive than to order on their own websites.

At first I wanted to buy at Aricona, but they never have my needed prescription, so I went to matlens. I needed new green and blue contact lenses for my Enchantress and my She-Ra costumes.

I set the following filters:
Tab -> “beauty contact lenses”
Prescription: „-1.00 bis -3.00 dpt.“
Colors: „green“ and „blue“
Type: „Normal“ (I didn´t want big eyes!)
Service life: „6 month“

That much is clear I think ;-).

Cause I – at least for contact lenses – prefer a natural look and my iris is very very dark brown, I try to find lenses that are not too two-dimensional, but have more spreaded pigments for a better mix with my own eye color.

If there´s no picture given, or only one with blue/light eyecolour, I personally can´t judge the color very well. Also the photos given are always photographed with the perfect light, which is not realistic in my opinion. There´s also the choice to upload a photo and “try on” the lenses on your own eye, I didn´t do that cause I don´t wanna make a profile and I also question if the result would be representative.

I found the article EOS J-211, which I liked on the photos with the following informations:

You can choose an individual prescription for every eye, what I like a lot. I have -1.25 diopters on both eyes, but when you have different prescriptions it´s perfect!

I can say in advance, that there are photos with brown eyes as example online for this lenses, but the color is definitely darker in real life, but also more beautiful in my opinion 🙂 !

Matlens has shipping costs about 3,20€ in Germany and free shipping from 40€ on. My ordered lenses cost 32€ and I added another pair „EOS Big Eyes Big Flower“ in color „Blue“ for 10€ (sale!) without prescription to avoid shipping costs.

The shipping time sounds really short with 2-3 work days, but I ordered on a friday and received them a full week later, cause the order conformation took so much time. It was a close call to get them from the post office just in time at that day, because the package wasn´t delivered to my postbox and I needed them for CCXP.

So if anybody need the contact lenses on a special date, I would recommend to order them 10-14 days before the event. Apart from that, the order procedure is very simple and it is possible to order directly via PayPal.

The contact lenses are delivered in small, safe closed glass bottles with a rubber cap and a metal seal. I have a small nippers on hand, because I´m never able to open them up in one go. Also the lenses are very safe packed in bubble foil and a small carton and has a lens case and a small bottle of cleansing solution as free gift for each pair. I´m a total fan of the transparent lens cases, because you can see what´s inside 🙂 .

After removing the cap, I wash my hands carefully, shift the lenses in my hand in one go and rinse them well from both sides with the given solution. I also directly take a look on the shape of the lenses and turn them over. There are so much different options to put the lenses in, that I can´t give any recommending, except “take your time”, “do it as it´s best for you” and “try, try, try”. I needed 30 minutes to put my first lens in, it burned like hell and my make up was ruined. Sometimes I put them back in the case to moisture them again.

If the lens is inside the eye, I turn it round and round until the lens is nearly in the correct position, then I carefully twinkle. Then I turn my eyes around again with closed lids. After app. 30 seconds they´re perfect for me, but when it takes too long, I sometimes add a drop of saline solution.

Resume: first things first, I absolutely like them! In my conditions, the lenses cover very good, in the center of my eye is a bit of my own iris visible, cause there are less pigment on the lens and they´re relatively dark compared to natural light colored eyes, but in my opinion it makes them more natural. The prescription works very well, I can see everything on conventions now (yay!). I wore them about 7 hours on CCXP and had no problems.

Kontaktlinsen Review – Matlens “EOS J-211” Farben: Blau & Grün

Vor einiger Zeit habe ich das erste Mal Linsen bei Matlens bestellt und möchte Interessierten gerne meine Erfahrungen schildern.

Da ich für meine Kostüme natürlich gerne die passende Augenfarbe habe, aber leider mittlerweile auch Kontaktlinsen mit Stärke brauche, immer viel zu verpeilt auf Conventions bin und auch nie wirklich sehen kann wer mir zuwinkt oder grüßt von weitem, brauchte ich neue Linsen, aber mit Stärke! Früher habe ich meine Kontaktlinsen bei mycostumes ohne gekauft, aber da es dort nicht mehr möglich ist mit Stärke zu bestellen, brauchte ich eine Alternative.

Ich habe viel gegoogelt und in Foren gelesen, und bin dann bei matlens, Linsenfinder, Aricona und diversen anderen gelandet, natürlich auch Amazon, wobei die anderen genannten Anbieter überwiegend auch bei Amazon sind und dort eher schlecht als recht bewertet sind. Die Auswahl ist dort auch kleiner und das Bestellen nicht günstiger als in dem eigenen Webshop der Anbieter.

Da Aricona, bei denen ich eigentlich zuerst bestellen wollte immer genau nicht meine Stärke hatte, bin ich dann bei matlens gelandet. Ich brauchte mal wieder grüne und blaue Kontaktlinsen für mein Enchantress und mein She-Ra Cosplay.

Also habe ich folgendermaßen gefiltert:
Reiter -> „Beautykontaktlinsen“
Filter für  Dioptrien: „-1.00 bis -3.00 dpt.“
Farben: „grün“ und „blau“
Art: „Normal“ (ich wollte keine Big eyes!)
Nutzungsdauer: „6 Monate“

Soweit ist alles klar denke ich ;-).

Da ich – zumindest bei den Kontaktlinsen – eher einen natürlichen Look bevorzuge und meine Iris wirklich sehr sehr dunkelbraun ist, versuche ich immer Linsen zu finden die nicht extrem flächig deckend sind, sondern eher gestreute Farbpunkte haben, damit sich die Farbe mit meiner eigenen Augenfarbe vermischt.

Wenn nicht grade ein Beispielfoto mit braunen Augen vorhanden ist, oder bzw. nur eins mit blauen/hellen Augen, bringt mir persönlich das immer wenig. Auch sind die (Werbe-)Fotos natürlich immer toll ausgeleuchtet. Man hat auch die Möglichkeit eigene Fotos hochzuladen und die Linsen Online „anzuprobieren“, was ich aber nicht ausprobiert habe aus folgenden Gründen: A) hatte ich die Befürchtung, dass ich dafür ein extra Konto anlegen muss (wie z.B. bei Mister Spex für Brillen), das mag ich einfach nicht und B) Stelle ich eh in Frage, dass man dadurch eine realistische Aussage bekommt, wie soll das gehen 😉 ?

Ich bin dann aufgrund der Fotos bei dem Artikel EOS J-211 gelandet mit folgenden Angaben:

Die Stärke ist jeweils einzeln auswählbar, was ich super finde. Ich habe zwar auf beiden Augen -1.25 dpt. aber wenn man unterschiedliche Stärken hat, ist es optimal.

Vorab kann ich schon einmal sagen, dass es zwar Fotos auf braunen Augen zur Ansicht gibt, die Originale sind aber definitiv dunkler auf dem Auge, aber auch schöner 🙂 .

Matlens gibt einen Versandpreis von 3,20€ für Deutschland an, ab 40€ ist der Versand kostenfrei. Ich bin mit 2 Paar Linsen bei 32€ gelandet und habe noch ein reduziertes Paar ohne Stärke „EOS Big Eyes Big Flower“ in Farbe „Blue“ für 10€ mitbestellt um den Versand zu sparen.

Die Versandzeit ist mit 2-3 Werktagen angegeben. Ich habe freitags bestellt und genau 1 Woche später waren die Linsen da. Da es allerdings noch einige Tage gedauert hat, bis die Bestellbestätigung kam und die Linsen dann erst verschickt wurden, war es etwas knapp für mich, da ich die Linsen für die CCXP in Köln brauchte und das Paket nicht in den Briefkasten geschmissen wird. Wer die Linsen also bis zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt braucht, dem empfehle ich eher 10-14 Tage im Voraus zu bestellen. Ansonsten ist der Bestellvorgang Standard, man kann sogar direkt über PayPal gehen.

Die Linsen sind in kleinen dicht verschlossenen Glasflaschen mit Gummideckel und Metallverschluss. Ich hab immer eine kleine Zange zur Hand, weil ich es fast nie schaffe den Metallrand auf Anhieb zu entfernen. Des Weiteren sind die Linsen sehr gut und sicher in Blasenfolie und einem Karton verpackt und kommen mit jeweils einem transparenten Linsendöschen und einer 150ml Flasche Kombilösung pro Linsenpaar. Ich bin ab sofort pro transparente Linsendosen 🙂 , voll praktisch wenn man sehen kann was drin ist.

Nachdem ich den Deckel entfernt habe, wasche ich mir gründlich die Hände, kippe mir die Linse mit Schwung in die Hand und spüle diese gründlich von beiden Seiten mit der Kombilösung. Ich schaue auch direkt, ob die Linsenrundung schon richtig herum liegt und drehe ggf. die Linse dann um. Da es viele verschiedene Stile gibt um eine Linse einzusetzen, kann ich hier kaum etwas empfehlen außer „so wie es für euch am besten klappt“ und „üben, üben, üben“. Ich hab damals für meine erste Linse eine halbe Stunde gebraucht und manchmal wollen sie einfach nicht so wie ich, dann feuchte ich sie nochmal an oder lege sie kurz zurück in die Lösung.

Wenn die Linse drin ist, versuche ich erstmal nicht zu zwinkern und drehe mein Auge hin und her, damit die Linse in die richtige Position rutscht und blinzle dann vorsichtig. Dann bewege ich mein Auge bei geschlossenen Lidern etwas hin und her. Nach ca. 30 Sekunden sitzen sie dann meistens bei mir, relativ lange im Vergleich zu anderen, ich habe aber sehr trockene Augen, da dauert es einfach etwas länger. Manchmal tropfe ich hier schon Kochsalzlösung oder Augentropfen nach.

Mein Fazit: Mein erstes Gefühl, absolut super! Für meine Verhältnisse decken die Linsen hervorragend, in der Mitte sieht man natürlich meine eigene Augenfarbe, weil dort weniger Farbpigmente sind und natürlich sind sie relativ dunkel bei mir, was aber natürlicher wirkt. Außerdem sind sie angenehm auf dem Auge (ich bin wirklich extrem empfindlich). Die Stärke ist auch voll da (endlich kein verschwommener Horizont auf den Cons mehr, yay!) und ich habe die Linsen ca. 7 Std. ohne Probleme auf der CCXP getragen.
